Replaces your messy canister oil filter with a slightly less messy spin on filter. My rule generally was to pour a quart on the floor and roll around in it just to get that part over with ;)

These adapter plate kits are an absolutely outrageous $900 (must be made from Unicorn poop?) or so from Lycoming now. That's absurd. I have the plate adapter, the little stub and a few extra of the gaskets (part 06B23072) which are an outrageous $50 ea and now there is an AD saying you have to replace this gasket at every oil change. Thanks FAA. However, if you are running your old style canister filter, you might take a look at the engine failure accidents due to improper installation! This is cheap insurance against that.

No paperwork, but I had this installed on my Cardinal o-360 A1f6D for about 300h. I then swapped the engine for  "proper" separate mag model which came with a different spin on adapter.
