2001 CIRRUS SR22, 3775TT, LANDING DAMAGE, COMPLETE AIRFRAME, INTACT, A REAL OPPORTUNITY, CHEAP !!!

THE CIRRUS SR-22 CHANGED THE LANDSCAPE FOR GENERAL AVIATION.

THE LIST OF CUTTING EDGE FEATURES IS ALMOST ENDLESS.


THE MOST UNIQUE FEATURE OF ALL IS THE WHOLE AIRFRAME PARACHUTE SYSTEM. 

A FANTASTIC SAFETY FEATURE, AND ONE I'M SURE THAT MOST MERE MORTAL PILOTS (NOT THE SUPER-MAN TYPE) SECRETLY WISH THEIR AIRPLANES HAD.  I MEAN WHY NOT, IF YOU HAD A GET-OUT OF JAIL FREE CARD, YOU WOULD USE THAT, WOULDN'T YOU? 

THE COCKPIT IS COMPLETELY MODERN, FROM ITS TIGHT FITTING CLAMSHELL DOORS LIKE AN EXOTIC CAR, TO IT'S PORSHE-LIKE AUTOMOTIVE STYLE INTERIOR, SWATHED IN LEATHER AND SMOOTH, FINISHED SIDEPANELS AND HEADLINER.

THE DASH IS TOTALLY MODERN AS WELL, WITH CURVED EDGES, A HUGE MULTIFUNCTION MAP DIRECTLY IN THE CENTER, SIDESTICK CONTROLS SO THE WHOLE DASH IS VISIBLE, AND A SINGLE POWER LEVER TO CONTROL THROTTLE AND PROP.

I JUST SPENT QUITE A BIT OF TIME IN THIS AIRPLANE, AND THE IMPROVEMENTS  OVER MY LATE MODEL MOONEY DASH ARE OBVIOUS AND MAKE ME A LITTLE ENVIOUS OF THOSE CIRRUS DRIVERS.

THIS EARLY MODEL OF SR-22 USES ACTUAL ROUND FLIGHT AND ENGINE INSTRUMENTATION TO GO ALONG WITH THAT BIG MAP SCREEN, WHICH IS ACTUALLY PREFERABLE FOR A LONG TIME PILOT LIKE ME, (OLD, AND SET IN MY WAYS) WHO DOESNT WANT TO GO TO ALL TAPE-STRIPE DIGITAL FOR THE BASIC INFO.

THIS AIRCRAFT HAS 3775 TOTAL TIME SINCE NEW ON THE AIRFRAME.


THIS AIRPLANE WAS OWNED AND FLOWN BY A HIGH TIME CIRRUS PILOT, WHO HAD OWNED THIS AIRPLANE FOR LONG TIME.  THIS JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU THAT EVERY LANDING IS IMPORTANT, AND THAT YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU MIGHT GET CAUGHT NAPPING A LITTLE!

THE GRASS STRIP THAT THIS AIRPLANE WAS BASED AT IS FAIRLY SMOOTH, BUT NOT OVERLY WIDE OR LONG.

ON THIS PARTICULAR DAY, THE CROSSWIND WAS A LITTLE MORE THAN HE COUNTED ON, AND HE CAME IN A LITTLE FAST, WHICH CAUSED HIM TO FLOAT A LITTLE BEFORE TOUCHDOWN.

WHILE FLOATING, POWER OFF, THE CROSSWIND PUSHED HIM SIDEWAYS, INTO SOME SCRUB, WHICH HE CAUGHT WITH THE LEADING EDGE OF THE LEFT WING, BREAKING OFF THE BOLT-ON WINGTIP, AND DAMAGING THE OUTBOARD LEADING EDGE.

THE AIRPLANE SPUN AROUND, AND ACTUALLY ROLLED BACKWARD FOR A WHILE, WITH THE TAIL SLIGHTLY ELEVATED, WHICH IS WHAT ALLOWED THE VERY TIPS OF ALL 3 BLADES TO BEND FORWARD, LIKE A REVERSE Q-TIP PROP!!

ALSO IMPACTED WAS THE LEADING EDGE SKIN OF THE RIGHT WING, AND THE RUDDER IS WRINKLED SLIGHTLY.

IF YOUR OPINION IS THAT THIS IS A SUPER EASY REPAIR, KEEP READING TO THE END BEFORE HITTING THE BUY-IT-NOW!

WHEN THE LEFT WING IMPACTED, IT WRINKLED THE GLUE-ON FIBERGLASS FAIRING BETWEEN THE WING AND FUSELAGE ON THE LEFT SIDE.  THIS IS A SEPARATE COMPONENT, AND NO BIG DEAL TO REPLACE, BUT THE WRINKLE POINTS TO A BIGGER PROBLEM.

ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FUSELAGE, THE SIDE PANEL HAS FLEXED ENOUGH THAT THE PARACHUTE STRAP COVER, AGAIN A GLUE-ON PIECE, HAS CRACK IN A SMALL AREA.  THERE IS NO REASON TO SUSPECT THE PARACHUTE STRAP IS HURT OR COMPROMISED IN ANY WAY, AND THE CHUTE WAS NOT DEPLOYED OR PARTIALLY DEPLOYED, SO THERE IS NO REPACK ISSUE.

SPEAKING OF REPACK, THIS CHUTE HAS HAD THE MANDATORY CALENDAR REPACK PERFORMED.

THE MAIN DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE WINGTIP IMPACT IS A CRACK UNDER THE FLOOR TO THE FIBERGLASS STRUCTURE, UNDER THE PILOT'S SIDE REAR SEAT.  I HAVE SHOWN THE CRACK IN SEVERAL PICTURES.

WE HAVE NOT ASKED, AND DO NOT INTEND TO, BECAUSE IN GENERAL, THE LESS SAID, THE BETTER WITH CIRRUS.

I HAVE NOT ASKED CIRRUS ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR REPAIR ON THIS PARTICULAR AIRFRAME, BUT I HAVE LOTS OF EXPERIENCE WITH CIRRUS AIRCRAFT, AND CIRRUS ENGINEERING APPROVALS, OR LACK OF THEM, SO I AM MAKING A GUESS.

IF YOU ARE SOMEONE WITH COMPOSITE EXPERIENCE, YOU MIGHT WANT TO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS AIRPLANE.

THE LIST OF UNDAMAGED ITEMS (THE REASON I BOUGHT THE AIRPLANE, WITH PLANS TO PART IT OUT, OF COURSE) IS HUGE!!

THE LEFT BOLT-ON TIP IS HURT, BUT THE STROBE POWER SUPPLY AND NAV-STROBE LIGHT(WITH UPGRADED LED LIGHT) IS UNDAMAGED

THE FORWARD SPAR, WHICH GOES OUT TO THE VERY END OF THE WING,  ****DOES NOT**** APPEAR TO BE DAMAGED!

THE LEADING EDGE SKIN IS HURT ON THE OUTBOARD 2 FEET, BUT I CANNOT SEE ANY OBVIOUS CRACKING IN THE SPAR.

THE TIP SCREWS ARE STILL IN THE WING TRAILING EDGE, TOP AND BOTTOM.

THE FLAP AND AILERON ON THE LEFT (ON BOTH SIDES, ACTUALLY) ARE UNDAMAGED, AS THIS AIRPLANE DIDN'T LOSE ITS GEAR OR GO DOWN ON ONE SIDE.

THE RIGHT WING LEADING EDGE SKIN IS BASICALLY CRACKED APART AT THE  SEAM, BUT THE FORWARD SPAR THERE IS ALSO APPARENTLY UNDAMAGED, AND THIS IS A STRAIGHTFORWARD REPAIR.

THE RIGHT TIP IS UNDAMAGED, ALONG WITH THE SURFACES.

THE NOSEGEAR, ENGINE MOUNT, COWLING UPPER AND LOWER AND FIREWALL APPEAR UNDAMAGED!!

THIS WAS NOT A HARD LANDING, JUST A LITTLE TOO FAR OFF CENTER BY THE TIME HE SETTLED IN.


AMONG THE MANY UPDATES ON THIS AIRPLANE, IS A LOPRESTI "BOOM BEAM" HIGH ENERGY NOSE LANDING LIGHT!!

WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE SMALL CRACK AROUND THE LEFT SIDE PARACHUTE STRAP COVER, THERE IS NO OUTWARD SIGN OF DAMAGE TO THIS ENTIRE FUSELAGE !!

THE DOORS FIT TIGHTLY, THE GLASS IS ALL PERFECT, THE PAINT IS GREAT, AND THERE IS NO OTHER DAMAGE VISIBLE AS YOU WALK UP TO THE AIRPLANE!

THE CABIN AND TAILCONE ARE INTACT AND UNDAMAGED EXTERNALLY.

THE VERTICAL FIN AND HORIZONTAL STABILIZER ARE UNDAMAGED, AS ARE THE ELEVATORS.

ALL 3 OF THE LANDING GEAR ARE UNDAMAGED, AS ARE THE WHEELS AND THE BRAKES.

THE NOSE WHEEL PANT LOOKS GOOD, AS DOES THE RIGHT MAIN INNER AND OUTER, BUT THE LEFT MAIN IS DAMAGED.

INSIDE, THE LIGHT GREY LEATHER INTERIOR IS VERY GOOD, WITH ONLY SOME MILD WEAR TO THE FRONT SEAT HEADREST AREAS.

EXTRAS LIKE ROSEN SUNVISORS AND DUAL SHOULDER HARNESS MOD HAVE BEEN ADDED

THE DASH IS ALMOST 100% COMPLETE, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HSI INDICATOR AND THE GLIDESLOPE INDICATOR, WHICH HAVE BEEN REMOVED AND ARE NOT INCLUDED.

ALL FLIGHT AND ENGINE INSTRUMENTATION IS STILL INSTALLED AND INCLUDED, AND THIS INCLUDES THE ELECTRIC ATTITUDE INDICATOR! 

THE STEC 55X FULL FEATURED AUTOPILOT SYSTEM, WITH ALTITUDE HOLD, ELECTRIC TRIM AND GPSSTEERING  IS STILL INSTALLED AND INCLUDED.

THIS AIRPLANE, LIKE MOST SR-22'S, HAD A GARMIN STACK INSTALLED.  WE HAVE LEFT THE TRAYS, CONNECTORS AND WIRING INTACT FOR TWO 430"S, A 340 AUDIO AND 327 TRANSPONDER, BUT THE PANEL UNITS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING !!!!

AS THE ENGINE SUSTAINED A PROP STRIKE, THIS AIRPLANE IS BEING SOLD WITHOUT THE ENGINE OR ACCESSORIES  FORWARD OF THE INCLUDED AND UNDAMAGED ENGINE MOUNT.

NO ENGINE, PROP, SPINNER OR EXHAUST ARE INCLUDED.

SO WHAT TO DO?

THIS IS A GREAT PARTS AIRPLANE, AND MY STAFF WOULD LOVE TO HAVE IT.  IF WE KEEP IT, THAT IS JUST WHAT WE WILL DO, OR YOU COULD TOO.

OR REPAIR IT!!  THE INTERIOR AND DASH ARE INTACT, ALL OF THE GEAR IS OK, THE TAILCONE, HORIZONTAL, ELEVATORS AND VERTICAL FIN ARE OK!.

 IT CAN'T BE REPAIRED BY JUST ANYBODY, YOU NEED TO BE OR KNOW OF A COMPOSITE LITERATE PERSON, BUT OF COURSE IT CAN BE DONE !!

THIS AIRPLANE IS N NUMBER REGISTERED IN THE U.S., AND WAS BASED IN CALIFORNIA, SO ALL LOGS AND MAINTANENCE ARE U.S.

THE LAST ANNUAL WAS PERFORMED 4/12/2018, AND WE HAVE THE FAA AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE AND FAA BILL OF SALE 



THE OWNER USED THIS AIRPLANE TO GET BACK TO HIS FAMILY HOME IN ONTARIO, AND KEPT A HANGER THERE, AT A LITTLE AIRPORT, NAMED RIDEAU LAKES, JUST OUTSIDE WESTPORT, ONTARIO. THE AIRPLANE IS TIED DOWN THERE NOW.

GETTING IT BACK TO THE U.S. IS EASY BECAUSE OF THE N REGISTRATION, AND IT IS NO DUTY TO RETURN IT BACK HOME.

LEAVING IT IN CANADA IS EASY, BECAUSE IT IS THERE, BUT IT WILL REQUIRE DEREGISTRATION AND REREGISTRATION WITH CANADA.

MAYBE A FOREIGN COUNTRY?  I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE RULES ARE ABOUT EXPORTING AN AIRPLANE IN DAMAGED CONDITION, SO DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU BID, NOT AFTER.

THAT IS SOUND ADVICE, REGARDLESS OF WHERE YOU LIVE.

I KNOW THAT THERE WILL BE LOTS OF "HOPEFULS" LOOKING AT THIS AIRPLANE, WHO LOVE THE IDEA OF A CIRRUS THAT LOOKS INTACT, THIS CHEAP.

IN FACT IF YOU ARE A CIRRUS SHOP, THE MATH MAY WORK FOR YOU  AS A DONOR AS WELL.

IF I'M WRONG, AND THE WORLD CAN'T FIND A WAY TO FIX THIS AIRPLANE, I AM HAPPY TO PART IT OUT LATER.
