- The IGSO-540-AIA are geared supercharged engines with Bendix RS10FB1 fuel injectors. The propellor drive ratio is 77:120, or 64% of engine RPM. 3400 RPM on the tachometer is 2180 propeller RPM. Single Point Fuel Injection is plumbed directly into the supercharger housing. Fuel is injected proportional to air flow and excess fuel is returned to the Main Tanks. The suoercharger is gear coupled to the crankshaft and rotates at 11.27 times crankshaft RPM. This is nearly 40,000 RPM at 3500 Engine RPM. The crankshaft is equipped with dynamic counterweights which can be damaged by rapid opening and closing of the throttle. Both Lycoming and Beech manuals recommend and caution against abrupt power changes.
- Engine Priming Injectors operate by pushing in on the Start Switch with the Boost Pumps ON, which opens the Primer Solenoid; they are independent of the regular Bendix fuel injector and inject fuel directly into the cylinders. Improper starting procedures can and will result in engine fires on the ground. Always be alert to this possibility and be prepared to take corrective action. Lycoming suggests No Prime for Hot starts and 4-10 seconds for a Cold IGSO-540. Start procedures are unique to each fuel injector/engine configuration
