I had these Gidair master cylinders on my redline equipped Stearman. Replaced them with the newer style when I had one out for an o-ring failure and saw corrosion in one of the reservoirs. In hindsight, I think I should have kept them or had them overhauled because they'd still work with the corrosion and I would still have parking brakes (no parking brake on new style).
Aircorp aviation gives a $500 core charge for these with overhaul - but confirm that before you buy if that's your plan.
1. See photos - one reservoir is corroded much more than the other. Those are both of the reservoir bores in the photos - not piston bores.
2.The piston cylinder bores look just fine to me - no corrosion or scoring.
3. One is completely disassembled - all parts included. One is just opened up enough to inspect the cylinder and reservoir bores.
4. They had different piston springs in them, go figure.
5. These are 7/8 per the part number and were used with Redlines, but.. Per the Aircorp web site :
- 1″ – use with Hayes and BT-13 brakes
- 7/8″ use with Bendix brakes
- 3/4″ use with Disc brakes (Redlines)
I won't rip you off - any problems let me know and we'll work it out.
