1965 MOONEY M20C AIRFRAME, GOOD LOOKING, BLADDER TANKS, VERY LIGHT DAMAGE, CHEAP !!

THE M20 “C” IS THE STANDARD MOONEY, THE ULTIMATE EXAMPLE OF MOONEY’S “SIMPLE, LIGHT, FAST” PHILOSOPHY !

THE “C” MODEL STARTED IN 1962, WITH THE MODERN MOONEY METAL WING AND TAIL (YES, BEFORE THAT, THE M20 SERIES HAD A WOOD WING AND WOOD TAIL !!)

4 PLACE CABIN WITH A BENCH REAR SEAT, AND PLENTY OF RANGE, WITH 54 GALLONS IN THE WING, AND A SIMPLE LEFT/RIGHT SELECTOR.

SPEED WITH THE 180 H.P. BULLIT PROOF LYCOMING 0-360 ENGINE IS 140 KNOTS, (161 MILES PER HOUR), ON ABOUT 8.5 GALLONS PER HOUR, FOR OVER 800 MILE RANGE.

THE SYSTEMS ARE SIMPLE, WHICH ADDS TO THE RUGGEDNESS AND EASE OF REPAIR IF YOU NEED TOO.

BY 1965, THE M20C WAS REFINED WITH SQUARED OFF SIDE WINDOWS, AND THIS BASIC SHAPE AND DESIGN HAVE CARIED OVER TO THE 2018 ACCLAIM AND OVATION, SO THE SQUARED WINDOWS, LIKE THIS AIRPLANE HAS, ARE THE “MODERN STYLE”

THIS AIRPLANE WAS REPAINTED IN THE LATE 1970’S, SO IT LOOKS FAR BETTER THAN THE AVERAGE 1960’S AIRPLANES, WITH THEIR FUNKY PAINT SCHEMES AND CRACKING PAINT.

THIS AIRPLANE IS GOOD LOOKING, SMOOTH, AND HAS A PLEASING SCHEME.

THE TAN CLOTH INTERIOR IS PRETTY GOOD, BUT WE DIDN’T PULL THE COMFORTABLE SHEEPSKIN COVERS OFF THE FRONT SEATS, SO I HONESTLY DON’T KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY TEARS TO THE FRONT SEAT UPHOLSTRY.

THE FRONT SEATS ARE EQUIPPED WITH SHOULDER HARNESSES.

NO RADIO PANEL UNITS ARE INCLUDED, BUT THE TRAYS ARE STILL INSTALLED AND WIRED FOR THE FOLLOWING:

KING AUDIO PANEL, KING NAV-COM, KING TRANSPONDER, KING DME. 

                                  STILL INSTALLED AND INCLUDED ARE:

MARKER BEACON LIGHTS AND RECEIVER

4 PLACE INTERCOM SYSTEM

OLDER ADF.

THIS AIRPLANE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE BRITTAIN AUTOPILOT, INCLUDING BOTH ACCU-TRACK AND ACCU-FLIGHT UNITS, PLUS P.C.

THE OWNER SPENT MONEY TO KEEP THE SYSTEMS WORKING, AND THE MECHANIC THAT PERFORMED THE LAST SEVERAL ANNUALS BELIEVED THE SYSTEM WAS COMPLETELY FUNCTIONAL.

THE D.G, ATTITUDE INDICATOR AND SMALL TURN CO-ORDINATOR ARE NOT IN THE PANEL, AND ARE NOT INCLUDED HERE.

THE TACH HAS BEEN UPDATED TO THE DIGITAL VARIETY.

EQUIPPED WITH A STANDBY VACUMN SYSTEM AND LATE MODEL STROBE LIGHTS WITH A “COMET-FLASH POWER SUPPLY.

THE FORMER OWNER ALSO SPENT MONEY TO ELIMINATE ONE OF THE COSTLIEST AND MOST IRRATATING PART OF MOONEY OWNERSHIP, LEAKY WET WINGS !!

THE FACTORY SYSTEM (STILL IN USE TODAY), SIMPLY SEALS UP A BAY BETWEEN THE RIBS ON EACH WING WITH SEALANT, AND PUTS FUEL IN THERE.  THIS IS A SIMPLE AND LIGHTWEIGHT WAY TO DO IT. 

UNFORTUNATELY, IN PRACTICE, IT DOESN’T WORK THAT WELL, AS THE WINGS FLEX DURING USE, THE SEALANT CRACKS, AND THE WINGS LEAK FUEL.  THIS IS ALWAYS A MESSY, UGLY SITUATION, BUT OCCASIONALLY IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AS WELL.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE OBVIOUS FIX FOR THIS FAULT IS TO ADD A RUBBER BLADDER INSIDE THE WING CAVITY (AS BEECHCRAFT AND CESSNA AND MOST OTHER MANUFACTURERS DO) IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO ACCOMPLISH.

THIS AIRPLANE HAS THESE EXPENSIVE O&N BLADDERS INSTALLED !!

SO THIS WAS A GOOD RUNNING, FRESHLY ANNUALED AIRPLANE IN 2018, WHEN THE OWNERS SON WENT OUT TO DO A FEW TOUCH AND GO’S.

2 WERE SUCCESSFUL, BUT THE 3RD RESULTED IN A “OOPS I FORGOT TO LOWER THE GEAR, SLIGHTLY SCRAPIER TOUCH”, WITH NO GO.

OF COURSE, THE PROPELLOR WAS DAMAGED AND THE ENGINE WAS SUBJECTED TO A PROP STRIKE.  THE ENGINE WAS REMOVED FROM THE UNDAMAGED MOUNT, WITH IT’S ACCESSORIES, AND IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS SALE.

THE O-360 IS A SUPER COMMON ENGINE, AND YOU MAY KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAS ONE YOU CAN BUY RIGHT, OR ARE WILLING TO FIND ONE. 

THE ENGINE WAS PROFESSIONALLY REMOVED, WITH PLANS TO RE-INSTALL, SO THE CONTROL CABLES AND ELECTRICAL LINES WERE REMOVED, NOT CUT, AND ARE STILL INSTALLED IN THE AIRPLANE.

THERE IS NO FIREWALL DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE, NO LOWER OR UPPER COWL DAMAGE.

NO WING DAMAGE, NO CONTROL SURFACE DAMAGE

NO TAIL DAMAGE.

THERE ARE 2 SCRAPED BELLY SKINS, BOTH OF WHICH SCREW ON, NOT RIVIT.

ONE OF THE SUPPORT RIBS HAS A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF SCRAPING, BUT THE FLANGE IS INTACT.

THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO ANY OF THE LANDING GEAR, OR TO THE MAIN GEAR DOORS, BUT THE NOSE DOORS HAVE A SCRAPE IN THE HUMP.

THE RIGHT FLAP HANGER HAS A SCRAPE AT THE BOTTOM EDGE, BUT THE LEFT IS FINE.

THE BELLY DAMAGE IS SO LIGHT BECAUSE OF GOOD FORTUNE IN PLACEMENT OF THE ADF ANTENNA, THE MARKER BEACON ANTENNA, AND THE BELLY STROBE, ALL OF WHICH SACRIFICED THEMSELVES TO SAVE THE REST OF THE BELLY !!

THAT’S IT, NO OTHER DAMAGE !!

THIS IS A FAR BETTER THAN AVERAGE AIRPLANE, WITH $6,000 (PLUS INSTALLATION) FUEL BLADDERS, AND NO WING DAMAGE !!!!

LOCATED IN MINOT, N.D., TIED DOWN OUTSIDE.

WE WILL PAY THE TIE-DOWN FEE FOR 30 DAYS FROM THE END OF THE AUCTION.

THIS AIRPLANE IS SOLD WITH THE AIRFRAME LOGBOOKS COMPLETE FROM IT’S CERTIFICATION IN LATE 1964 TO THE LAST ANNUAL SIGN-OFF 4/2/2018 (YES IT IS STILL IN CALANDER ANNUAL, BUT THAT JUST PROVES IT WAS NOT A SITTER OR RAMP QUEEN) PLUS THE FAA BILL OF SALE, 337’S AND WEIGHT AND BALANCE, AD COMPIENCE SHEETS, AND A SERVICE AND MAINTAINENCE MANUAL.

TOTAL AIRFRAME TIME IS 5763.
